Tydd St Giles – July 2026
With Graham Tooke and James Henley attending The Open at Royal Birkdale, 11 Follies assembled at Tydd St Giles where we are always very well looked after.

Tea, coffee and bacon rolls were the reward for the journey way out east and we headed to the first tee where the fun began. We were entertained by Colin Keal, on his first appearance of the season, wrestling with his trolley as he tried to remember how to put it together. He also lost his score card before he’d even teed-off.
Roy covered more distance than necessary on a couple of holes. On the 2nd, he hit a tree and ricocheted back almost to the tee and on the 5th, he hit a red post and shot off sideways another 50 yards.
Graham and James at The Open wouldn’t have seen any better golf than Colin Humphries’ par 4 where he collected 5 stableford points.
Andy does great work recycling lost golf balls for charity but he really should wait for them to stop rolling first. He pocketed Les’ ball twice and also then had the indignity to play Les’ ball as well – incurring a 2 stroke penalty!
Tydd is the only place that feeds us afterwards and a very nice Ham, Egg and Chips followed by Cheesecake was served. Unfortunately, Colin K had to leave early bequeathing his meal to the rest of us. Well, the poor waitress nearly lost an arm when she offered the spare main course around! The dessert was more discreetly secured by Trevor.
Follies Trophy:
1st – Roy with 38 points
2nd – Andy Izod with 33 points
3rd – David West on countback from Gabe with 31 points
Nearest the Pin:
Despite the thud of turf before contact, Geoff’s ball shot all the way along the floor to within 6 foot of the pin. He won a bottle of gin that had been warming in the car all afternoon – the stopper was nearly out of the bottle!
Next outing is to Old Nene Golf Club on Friday 21st August where battle for the Fritz Follies Champion Trophy will continue – https://fritzfollies.co.uk/leaderboard-2026/
